Introduction

Åsnakken is the northernmost top on the peninsula between Tomrefjorden and Tresfjorden, and offers fine views towards Otterøya and the Molde region. A forest road takes you all the way to the top, which is very popular amongst the locals.

On the top, you will find a "gapahuk" - a shelter with a roof and walls, but open in the entrance. The concept is very family-friendly, and the children will appreciate an "evening out" up here.

The "gapahuk" sign says "VETIN", which points back in time to the old coastal defense system. A "Vite" was a stack of wood, on strategic points along the coast, and to be set on fire when the enemy was approaching. "VETIN" is what this area is called in dialect. According to the book Den Norske Leidangen, the wooden cairn is referred to Viten på Åshammaren, på halvøya mellom Tomrafjorden og Tresfjorden. Thanks to Kai Stokkeland - a frequent Åsnakken visitor - for pointing me in the right direction, in terms of the sign. He also participated in building this "gapahuk", and strongly recommends Åsnakken as a family trip.
