About time...

Well into our 2010 summer holiday in northern Norway, the time had come to do Brattåsfjellet above Hommelstø. I looked forward to show Anne the place where I lived from 1964 to 1969. Well, there is little to be seen these days, as our house burnt down to the ground. Mom was coming along for the hike, and she had never been to Brattåsfjellet either.

Unfortunately, it was a grey and rainy day, but we were all quite familiar with the Velfjorden views. Anne and me had a good start to our vacation and had already been to a dozen peaks in Nordland county.

The hike to Brattåsfjellet was short; we headed out from Hilstad 11:15am and reached the top of Brattåsfjellet 12:12pm, after having signed the visitor's register in the cabin at 330m. As little could be seen from the summit, we turned quickly around and were back at Hilstad 12:55pm.

Aunhola

Being in the neighborhood, it was only natural to take the trip to the famous Aunhola. We got a rough explanation of the route from a local, and we were lucky enough to locate the grotto on the first attempt. The hike from Foråsbotnet took only 20 minutes, and it was fun to explore this grotto. Marble rock and running water is always a beautiful sight.

On one hand, it would have been interesting to spend a summer at Engavatnet (see the Brattåsfjellet main page) - to see if this famous lake turn dry, and watch it refill - weeks or months later. On the other hand, the project has some aspects of boredom, and I'm rather confident that I'll continue let this lake live its own life, without me monitoring...
