A group from Rolls-Royce (Bergen) had for some time planned a hike up to Brøknipa, and asked if I wanted to come along. Since I had been to this mountain a number of times, it would be convenient with someone who knew the the trail. Since this was an afternoon hike, it was natural to follow the route up the northeast ridge. A steep climb, but it would be the shortest route to the top, and with a high start (350m elev.).

I met the group at the Osterøy bridge, close to 16:30PM. The group consisted of Else Marie, Dagny, Liv Marit, Rune, Anders, Johannes, Ketil and myself. And of course Troll - my four-legged hiking mate. We then drove up to the Trollskardet trailhead and by 16:55PM, we were on our way.

After the traditional first 20 minutes with a pace well above realistic, the pace settled to a level allowing the individual to breathe both in and out. I was determined not to get the blame for this, so I had positioned myself well behind in the group. In a group of this size, it is impossible for everyone to maintain the same speed. Troll, with a self-appointed responsibility for keeping the group together, was running back and forth, trying to inspire trailing hikers to move along.

I had estimated upfront that the hike would take 1,5 hours, and we reached the summit within 1 hours, 20 minutes. The group had done a good job up the steep mountain. Everyone was indeed happy with the mountain and the views. The weather was just too good to be true, the recent bad weather taken into consideration. It was a bit chilly, and wind jackets had to come on. Troll was given his lunch box, and after eliminating the contents in record time, he ran from person to person, putting up his "I'm a small, tired and hungry dog" act. It seemed to work well.

The trail register indicated that we weren't the first ones on the summit this afternoon. Two other hikers had already been up here, and and another hiker arrived the summit shortly after. By 18:50PM, it was time to descend. I had (before the hike) estimated that the descent would take 1 hour, and by 18:45PM, everybody was back at the trailhead. This means that 1,5 hour up and 1 hour down is a good guideline for the northeast ridge route. From below, we could see that fog was moving in over Brøknipa, so our window on top was perfect timing. Excellent hike. Recommended for everyone.
