Huldrehornet
Huldrehornet is my local mountain, and a very convenient place to go when
time is limited or if the weather does not invite to go to the higher
mountains. The southwest side of the mountain is steep and rugged, and
here you can do everything from easy scrambling to tricky climbing. Some
parts are very exposed, while other parts are protected (against long
falls..). There is
something for everyone here, and I discover new variants and challenges
every time I take the trip.
From the top of Huldrehornet, just head down on the south side (a vague track is gradually turning into a path..), a bit to the left of the steep section. When you get to a plateau at approx. 200m, walk around and pick a route that is of interest. The rock surface is definitely not smooth, which can take its toll on fingers and hands. On the other hand, one has excellent grip for the boots.
On this evening, I went up with my colleague Terje Øvrebø. We had recently visited Liadalsnipa along the normal route, and Terje was still in the mood for scrambling. It was a brilliant afternoon and we had big fun with overcoming small challenges here and there while the sun was setting on the horizon. It is clear that Terje has a talent for scrambling/climbing, and I hope he will pursue this new interest.
