Jan 2 2015 was a resting day for us. We had done a 21km walk along La Ruta de los Volcanes the day before and had planned another long trip for the next day.  We didn't have any other plans than to test Anne's new wet suite at the local beach..

Hanging around on the local beach wasn't quite my kind of a day, and I knew that Montaña de la Breña was within walking distance - although we were talking about 8-9km on foot. I had mentally prepared myself for a long and boring walk along paved roads, but Anne came up with the suggestion that I should rent a bike, and so I did...

But first, I went down to the beach with Anne. The sea was a bit rough and it seemed stupid to challenge the forces of mother nature by going too far out. Once I saw that she was in safe waters, I went on my bike trip...

The bike trip to Montaña de la Breña was fun. I went through one back street after the other and there were small dogs everywhere, barking at me. If I didn't have a handheld GPS with a road map, it would have been much more cumbersome to navigate by regular map.

1h:20min and 9,7km after leaving the beach, I arrived at Montaña de la Breña. The 565 vertical meters went quite fast, I thought. It's always like that when there is something unknown and possibly exciting at the end of the journey. Unknown - yes, but so exciting the top was not. But at least I got there and that was the whole purpose of the trip...

Not surprisingly, the trip down went reasonably fast. I left the top 12:40 and was back at the hotel 13:00 sharp. And it didn't take long for restless me started looking forward to the next day, Ruta de la Cresteria and Punta de los Roques. Yeah!
