Introduction

Blåfjellet is a less dominating mountain, located above Kjersemsetra and Grytalisætra on Vaksvikfjellet. The mountain is up to your right when you head towards Kvitnyken or Sunnmørslauparlægda, and up to your left when you head towards Lauparen. If you're looking for a short hike or ski-trip on Vaksvikfjellet, Blåfjellet is a good destination. And you'll have a good view towards all of the higher mountains (except for Lauparen).

While the mountain is easy to reach in summer (although, according to the map, no trail seems to lead up to the top), it is perhaps more a candidate for a visit on skis. Come Easter, the Vaksvikfjellet road is normally open to 300m elevation, and chances are that you can follow good ski-tracks to Grytalisætra and Kjersemsetra. This web-page describes a roundtrip on skis.

The route

Ascent

Follow the Tresfjord road until you reach the road to Kjersemsetra. At Kjersemsetra, find a place to cross the stream from Litlebotnsrøra. Proceed up easy forest towards Blåfjellelva. Check snowbridges before you cross. If there are no bridges, you have to go around Heivatna. Ascend Blåfjellet where you see fit. You can ascend the southeast side without running into any obstacles. Blåfjellet summit is marked by some large rocks put on top of each other. Don't stand on top of these rocks. They move.

Descend via the south ridge and aim for the general route to/from Grytavatnet. Proceed down to Grytalisætra and follow the road back to the Vaksvik-Tresfjord road. You may also descend directly from Blåfjellet: follow the south ridge down to 660m, the switchback through easy birch forest, westbound, towards Grytalisætra.
