Brekkedalen - Sveningen via northeast ridge (summer)

Access
From Bergen, follow highway E39 southbound towards Stavanger. Turn left when you see the "Haugsdal 10" sign. This is approx. 7-8Km from Nesttun. Drive all the way (10Km) to road end. Open a gate (may be open when there are no sheep in the mountains) and find parking on the other side.
The route
Just after the parking, you arrive a trail junction. Turn right and cross the river via a bridge across Hausdalselvi river. Follow the Brekkedalen road up to the highest point. You will see a road junction, and parking (cabin owners) on your right. At the parking, notice a small cairn that marks the start of the cairn trail. The trail runs on the east side of lake Litla Brekkevatnet before it continues up the distinct northeast ridge. In good weather, the direction is obvious, but the cairns may play games with you if you are determined to follow them. Unless there has been trail maintenance, some cairns are broken, and some are missing. The summit is marked by a proper cairn and a mailbox.

Notes
This is a popular trail from the north, and there are no alternatives for returning to Brekkedalen unless you want to do off-trail hiking. route 3 and route 4 offer this possibility - almost directly towards the trailhead.
