Tinden/Samhjartet

"Tinderåsa", June 4 2008

Tinden / Samhjartet..

is a pointy, cool little top located in Synnalandsdalen, Haram. The name - Tinden (The Peak) tells me this top has attitude. The normal runs up the south ridge, and over time, a visible path has emerged on Tinden's eastern side. My colleague Arngeir lives in Brattvåg and hikes/runs Tinden frequenly. Arngeir had previously mentioned that no one seemed to walk up Tinden's north side, and that it a closer survey was in order. I wanted to join in on the hike, and on this incredibly fine June afternoon, I drove to Brattvåg.

"Tinderåsa"

We biked from Brattvåg to the south end of Synnalandsvatnet, saving us from a 3Km walk. We discussed back on forth which route to go for. There was a flank to the northwest, a distinct forest ridge to the northeast and a couple of narrow gullys east of the forest ridge. This was steep terrain, no doubt about it. My suggestion that we should look at the forest ridge first, which was OK by Arngeir.

This route (which Arngeir gave the name "Tinderåsa") was steep, but without any difficult or particular airy parts. Although we did agree that it couldn't have been any steeper before risk would be a part of the picture. The forest ridge turned out be a good route. It wasn't cluttered with trees and we moved easily on the grass. Steep grass. I rated this route YDS 2+, which suggests that some caution is advised in certain places. But it wasn't climbing, although it will be very hard work to ascend Tinderåsa without the use/support of your hands.

A bit higher up, the ridge got less steep, and although we didn't have to, we chose a rocky route that allowed us to scramble. The higher we got, the more fun it was. It would have been very painful to fall off some of the rocks we scrambled. Which of course is the main reason why we scrambled them (twisted logic, but..).

Tinden (437m)

We had left Arngeir's house 16:51PM and continued on foot from where we left our bikes at 17:10PM. We reached the top of Tinden 18:10PM. We spent some time on the top taking pictures, scrambling more cliffs, jumping around and just acting plain silly. That's what mountains are for.

After an enjoyable stay on Tinden, we descended (18:25PM) a path down the east side of Tinden, and joined the Synnalandsdalen road near Høgstølen, at the north end of Lake Gjersetvatnet. We picked up the bikes 18:57PM and was back at Arngeir's house 19:10PM, keeping a fast pace along Lake Synnalandsvatnet.

Arngeir's Tinden page can be found here.
