Norwegian Mountains

Hordaland Mountains: Os

os.hordaland.no

Os kommune is located south on Bergenshalvøya (Bergen peninsula) and the main kommune centre is Osøyro. Os is a small kommune, and I have only listed 8 independent mountains and hills higher than 300m on this web-page.

Sveningen is the highest point, and Os shares this summit with Samnanger and Bergen kommuner. The primary mountain completely within Os kommune, is Møsnuken. The views from Møsnuken are wonderful, and the mountain is very popular. Located just above Os, it is a bit more accessible for people living in Osøyro, compared to Sveningen.

Lysehornet is also a popular hike. At the Lysekloster trailhead, visit the ruins from a Cistercian abbey from 1146.

The Mountains

Below is the list of ranked mountains, sorted by height. "Ranked" means mountains with a height >= 300m and with a primary factor >= 100m. I have chosen to include some of the mountains with primary factor < 100m, and denoted these by "-" in the rank column. Names and height originate from Statens Kartverk (M711)/Norgesglasset (20m contours) or Økonomisk Kartverk (part of Norgesglasset, 5m contours). Quite a number of mountains have a point higher than the trig. point marked on the maps. Note that if the high point of a mountain lies within another kommune, the mountain is listed under that specific kommune. If a mountain high point is shared by two kommuner, the mountain is listed under both kommuner. The asterix (*) means that the high point is (exactly) found on a kommune border.

In addition to the independent mountains, Os kommune has also 4 forest hills below 300m elevation with a primary factor of more than 100m. Infact, three of these forest hills have a primary factor of more than 200m.
