Access:

From Bergen, take highway E39 north. After the toll booth at Nordhordalandsbrua bridge (toll is currently NOK 45,- for passenger cars) set your odometer. Follow E39 96,6Km. At Instefjord, exit left towards Rutledal. Follow the road along the Sognefjord 24,9Km to the ferry at Rutledal. Follow the road another 300m, and exit right towards Brosvik. Follow this road for 3,8Km. At this point, you should see a small road going up to your left, with a "Privat vei" sign (in Norwegian). Follow the road up the first hill and park next to the garages.

The trail:

Not much to say about the trail. The service road takes you straight to the top! In winter, when the snow is hard, you can head straight towards the summit, and only stay on the road in the very beginning. In the summer, preserve the nature and follow the road.

Trip report Mar 23 2002:

The weather forecast was unbelievable. I had been saving this mountain for a cloud-free day, due to the amazing views I expected from the top. And I was not disappointed!

I met a family of three who was the mountain's closest neighbours, which contributed to one of the best hikes I've had in a long time. We left the road pretty early, and enjoyed walking on hard snow directly to the top. The same route down offered enjoyable sliding.

Back in Bergen, I was in such good mood that I just *had* to hike Ulriken. Back home, the dog decided to call it a day, and I had no intellectual contact with him until next morning...
