A windy Garnestua traverse, Nov 24 2013 |
To the main Garnestua page (maps, pictures, other trip reports)
A few pictures from our (Anne, Karma and myself) trip from Ytre Haddal, across Garnestua and Flåna and descent to Garnes where we had a second car waiting. The forest above Ytre Haddal kept us in shelter up to 400 meters, but the remaining 250 vertical meters to Garnestua were rough and windy. If it hadn't been for a short break from the hail storm, we would have returned the same way. But we decided to push from Flåna and get as far down as possible before another hail shower came along. The next shower hit us immediately after passing Flåna and Karma had to take a time-out. Fortunately, the shower didn't last long and by the time we reached Garnesvatnet, we were out of the ugly zone... Funny enough - in the middle of the hail storm, a colleague called me (this was on a Sunday) and had a question. It was a bit surreal talking shop - no wait - shouting shop - in the middle of this inferno.
