On this
Friday afternoon, I was looking forward to a scramble on Garneshornet. The small summit
ridge has a steep (but not that steep..) drop on one side. A fall
wouldn't be very nice, so I planned to anchor a 20m rope on top and use a clog
device for safety. The rope only runs one way through this device, so if I
slipped, I wouldn't fall down. But a computer problem at work didn't allow me to
start hiking until 6pm. That left me roughly 3 hours of daylight, which was less
than I had planned for. While waiting for this problem to get solved, I found the time to do
400 vertical meters on Huldrehornet...
It took me
35-40 minutes to get to Garneshornet (454m, starting at 20m). I anchored the
rope, and as I hadn't used the clog before, I pondered on how to use it. As I
didn't know the rules, I didn't feel too bad about breaking them (twisted
logic..). I decided to wear just a chest harness and connected the clog to a
carbiner. That went quite well. I climbed/scrambled 5 different pitches, and wished
that I had my climbing shoes, as opposed to hiking boots..

was a gorgeous evening, and I figured that I had time to visit Flåna and be back down
before dark. It took me only 20 minutes from Garneshornet to Flåna (613m), from
where I enjoyed a breathtaking sunset and shiny white Sunnmøre alps with a touch
of red. The time was now 8:20pm, and the sun was about to disappear. I kept a
fair pace down the mountain and was back at the car 8:50pm, in due time before
dark. A fantastic evening..
