Rising and .. perhaps shining .. early this Sunday morning, HOPING that the weather would allow for a trip to higher ground. The morning weather wasn't bad, but the Haram/Ørskog mountains got fogged in, while I watched them. And then came the rain.
Morning turned into day, and I started looking for a low forest hill on my mountain list. While I personally could have exposed myself to a proper mountain on a day like this, I had no interest in exposing the dog to the wind up in the mountains. After a quick look, I found Gausnestoppen, and decided to go there.
On my way to Sjøholt, I figured that I could hike the entire forest ridge. But the rain was a bit discouraging. Driving to Sjøholt was actually the "hardest part" of the trip, as the road didn't drain the water fast enough. I drove up to Sjøholt camping, took a look at Gausnestoppen, and changed my mind.
I then drove towards Gausneset, found the tractor road to the Gausnes farm, and the dog ("Troll") and I were on our way 13:32PM. The tractor road, although steep, made walking easy. Troll decided after a couple of minutes that it would have been very convenient to be carried to the top. I ignored him and moved on, making sure that he eventually followed. He did.
We followed the tractor road up to Menakken, to get an overview. I had noticed a path up from the Gausnes farm, but decided to follow the tractor road. I couldn't see any path, and decided to go off-trail at the only logical place. Then I found the path, initially wiped out by a small landslide. I carried Troll to the top, which we reached 14:02PM.
I walked a small loop around the high point, trying to get some views between the trees, but concluded that this is not the primary viewpoint in this region. I headed back down, let Troll out of the backpack on the tractor road, and we were down by the car 14:30PM.
