I had just hiked Furehornet and Elvehornet on Stadlandet, and on my way home I decided I had will and opportunity to visit Geitahornet too. I didn't find any obvious route on my map, so I decided to hike the mountain road from Otneimsneset and go off-trail from Flødevatnet. I knew that I could have hiked a trail from Drageskaret via Skreiatua, but I'd rather explore new terrain. The weather started out really bad in the morning, but turned significantly better while I was hiking Furehornet and Elvehornet. It was still quite OK as I was heading towards Flødevatnet, but I could see that it was about to change. It was just a matter of time before clouds came moving in...
View towards Rivjehornet
The mountain road took me to Flødevatnet in half an hour. From here on, the hike became rather aggravating. First, the boggy terrain north of Flødevatnet was just awful. Then, clouds came moving in and I realized I would get zero views from the top. But OK, I was about to get another top in the bag, and that's all good!
![]() On the way to Geitahornet
I reached the top of Geitahornet 3pm - 1h:15m after heading out from the trailhead. I didn't see much except for the cairn (and some terrain beyond) and continued immediately over to a point 60-70 meters to the north that seemed higher. It was probably higher. 2 meters or so. Then I sat course for the trailhead. The fog made me get a bit lost, and frankly, there was a time I didn't know where I was. I had to take a look at the GPS, which told me that I was 74 meters away from my ascent route. I had no idea... But I did recognize the terrible bog north of Flødevatnet, and pretty soon I got a visual on the lake. Below the fog, I had a nice walk down the mountain road and returned to the trailhead 3:58pm - 2h:13m after heading out. With 3 new tops, I concluded that my day on Stadlandet was a most rewarding one!
