Norwegian Mountains, Møre og RomsdalHaddalshornet & snowdrift, Mar 23 2009To the main Haddalshornet page (maps, route descriptions, other trip reports, etc.)
Yesterday, it was snowing in the mountains, and when I woke up this morning, my local mountains were dressed in shiny white armour. On my way home from work, the sun was shining on the Hareidlandet mountains, and I could see the snowdrift 10-20m above the Haddalshornet summit ridge, and I felt a strong, strong need to be up there. On my way up the mountain, I had the great pleasure of watching two eagles riding on the winds. They observed me, analyzed me, then ignored me and just floated away...
Eagles above Haddal
I was in a hurry to get to the upper part of the mountain, where the action was. The combination of fresh powder snow and a gale was amazing. I didn't have to put on the extra jacket until I reached the summit ridge, which was a small inferno. I reached the summit cairn 6:23pm, 55min after leaving the Haddal trailhead. The descent was also enjoyable, even though it was difficult to just slide down on foot. The snow was packed by the wind, but it didn't quite carry my weight. But still, it was one more delightful visit to Haddalshornet... |
