Heida and Bergsetnakken
While Anne was in eastern Norway, I took the opportunity to look for some peaks that a) I hadn't been to and b) that would suit Karma - in terms of distance and terrain. Heida came up as a good candidate - with only 3,5km of skiing from Vangen Skisenter and to the top. The driving distance wasn't too bad either - thanks to the Kvivsvegen tunnel it would only take me approx. 1,5 hours to get there. The weather forecast was SUNNY all around but when I left Gurskøya at 10am, there was nothing sunny about this Saturday. But that was all about to change... We left the Vangen Skisenter 11:40am and followed the mountain road to Bergsetstøylen. A preparation vehicle had gone up here and left us smooth tracks to follow. The tracks continued in the direction of Bergsetnakken and I left this road when I saw the first cabins at Bergsetstøylen.
On the way to Bergsetstøylen
At the west side of the Bergsetstøylen cabin area, I followed Bergsetelva for a little while and then took a direct course towards Heida. The snow was perfect and carried Karma's weight. The weather was now turning to gorgeous and there was no wind. It soon became clear that the descent would be grand!
En route to Heida
We reached the top of Heida at 12:50 - 1h:10m after heading out from Vangen. I was considering skiing to Bergsetnakken but saw that the snow was piling up on Karma's legs. I had bought formfett (grease for cooking on a spray can) but had forgotten to spray her legs. So with that in mind I decided to return to Vangen and go hiking on Hareidlandet later in the evening instead. And besides - I visited Bergsetnakken last autumn...
Karma and me on Heida
The descent was just as beautiful was I had hoped for. The hillside was perfect for my (limited) Telemark skills. It is difficult to descend on skis with Karma running around. Not quite sure what is going through her mind during descent but I had to be in front in order to avoid an accident. We've had one before and it will never happen again.
Nordfjord view
On the way home, I had to stop just before Grodås as the panorama on the other side of the fjord was just spectacular...
