Hetlebakksåta seen from E39

Introduction

In the "shadow" of the more known Åsane mountains - Veten and Høgstefjellet, you will find Hetlebakksåta. Hiking this mountain/hill can best be described as "a moderate walk". However, there are some good views up there.

Primary factor:

Hetlebakksåta (M711: 334m, Ø.K: highest contour is 330m) has a primary factor of 231m towards the higher Storsåta (435m) The saddle is found on highway E16, W of Byrkjelandsnipa. Ref. Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), you cross the 105m contours on the high route, but not 100m. The saddle height has been interpolated to 103m.

Haukås Skole - Hetlebakksåta trail (summer) Difficulty : Easy Risk : Low Distance : Time : 1-1,5 hours to the top Starting Elev.: Approx. 50-60m Click for larger map Access: Take highway E16 north fro Bergen. At the E39/E16 junction in Åsane, take highway E39 north. Follow this road for 10 minutes, and exit right towards Breistein (signed exit) just after a Shell gas station on the right hand side of the road. Follow the new road for approx. 300m, then exit right to Haukås Skole (school). Pass a kindergarten on the left hand side, and find parking on the school. Notes: It's been a while since I did this hike, so details from the trail have escaped me. As the map might indicate, this mountain can be reached from many sides, but due to the modest size, I would recommend the ridgewalk. The trail: Walk up to the soccer field and find the trail on the rocks next to the field. The trail is easy to follow all the way up. The mountain is a long ridge, narrow at first and wide at the top. Even in the trail can be hard to spot in winter, the direction is obvious. The trail changes into more open area after the lake. On the final part of the trail, you might see a trail coming down from your left. This is a round-trip trail you can follow from the summit.
