Introduction

Igesundhetta is the highest point on Bergsøya island, which is located between the islands Nerlandsøya and Leinøya. This region is known as Ytre Søre Sunnmøre.

The entire mountain, which consists of many humps and bumps (including Storehornet, 196m), offers NUMEROUS paths which are frequently traveled by the locals. Foremost by the residents of the places Myklebust and Fosnavåg.

As from most tops in this region, you smell and listen to the ocean while gazing towards tops up to 1600m in the Ørsta region. This combination is second to none. On a Saturday, you may have climbed a hard winter route on Saudehornet, and on Sunday, you are looking at Saudehornet from Igesundhetta, free of snow, while a white-tailed eagle is cruising by. Talk about contrasts...

If you're just there for the top, Igesundhetta is an "easy pick". The shortest route from Myklebust is only a 900m walk, and you'll be up in "minutes". This is the route that is described on this web page.

Access

(all distances are approx. distances)

The nearest larger city is Ålesund. From Ålesund, follow highway E39 towards Bergen, and then RV61 towards Hareid. Take the Sulesund - Hareid ferry.

Entering Hareid, you pass through a roundabout. Follow RV61 and drive 16,8Km (you pass Ulsteinvik along the way). In the RV653/RV61 junction, turn right towards Måløy/Fosnavåg. Soon after you entered Gurskøya island, stay on RV654 (Fosnavåg) and don't follow RV61 towards Måløy. 11,5Km after the 654/61 junction, you reach the Moldtustranda/Fosnavåg junction. Turn right. Proceed 5,5Km to the Runde/Fosnavåg - Torvik junction. Turn left. Proceed 4,6Km and turn left just before a EuroSpar store (at least per Mar 2007).

After 100m, turn right. Pass three side roads on your left-hand side and then locate the path (on your left-hand side) towards Vikevatnet (unsigned). Find parking nearby.

The route

Follow the path up to Vikevatnet, and then turn right onto the path up to Igesundhetta summit, which is marked by a proper cairn.
