Kamben, 378m | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
IntroductionKamben is an oddity, being a standalone mountain/forest top completely surrounded by mountains 3-4 times its height. That in itself is worth the visit! Kamben rises above the place Bjørke and Storfjorden - part of Hjørundfjorden. The top is easy to reach. A forest road from Bjørke takes you halfway up the mountain. The rest of the route goes across easy terrain and vague paths. You have a great view towards Kjerringøyra, Helghornet, Jakta, Risenosa and Kårdalstindane from here.
Primary factor:Kamben (Norge 1:50,000: 378m, Økonomisk Kartverk: highest contour is 370m, UTM 32 V 373263 6889726) has a primary factor of 140m towards the higher parent mountain Høghornet (1319m). The defining saddle (approx. 32 V 373349 6888904) is where the forest road from Bjørke ends. Ref. Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), the saddle is within the range 235-240m, interpolated to 238m.

Access
(all distances are approx. distances)
This route description starts at the place Bjørke in Ørsta. You get there by driving the Kvivsvegen road between Volda and Grodås. Just before the western entrance (Volda side) of Kvivstunnelen, turn north towards Bjørke/Viddal (N62.03914 E6.41788). Then:
The route:
Follow the forest road (signposted "Fivelstad") upwards. After 1,3km, you reach the pass between Kamben and Tyssenuten. The forest road ends here. Head northwest (parallel to the power line) and try to find the vague path that takes you to the top of the forest ridge. If you don't see it, then just walk where you find it easiest.
Once on the ridge, continue north across boggy ground. You pass one trigonometric point (N62.11619 E6.56747 - see picture below) on your way to the high point (N62.11822 E6.57048).
