The skiing route
It was a drop dead gorgeous Sunday in western Norway and Anne and me decided to take the drive from Sogndal to Sognefjellet for a nice ski-trip. The target was Korenosi, but we saw from the map that we could make a nice round trip up there. It was an incredible hot day and it wasn't many places around where you could ski directly from a car. But Berdalsbandet offered this opportunity. The snow was really soft near the road and we feared that Karma (the dog) would be in for a hard trip. As she was only 8 months old, we needed to pay close attention to her.
Berdalsbandet
We headed out 10am sharp and looked forward to the trip ahead of us. As expected, Karma struggled in the soft snow but then she fell in behind us. Actually, she walked on the tail of our skis and this was a bit cumbersome. So we tried to get her to walk beside us - on the snow free part. But - no comprendo, mate...
To the left, Karma. LEFT!!
After 20 minutes we reached the first top - Lovardalsnosi. We weren't exactly exhausted yet, so after a few pictures and a look around, we moved on towards Korenosi...
Towards Korenosi
We had to search a bit to find a good place to cross the river from Hestdalsvatnet, but it was no major detour. After a nice plod up the Korenosi sloped, we arrived on the summit at 11:05am. And after having skied for a whole hour, we definitely had earned a nice break ;) We found a cell phone on Korenosi. The display was partly broken, and it seemed to have been there for some time. But it booted up! It was of course password protected, but I could see a lot of emails flying across the screen. I memorized the last name I saw, thinking we could contact that person and ask if he knew anyone who had lost a cell phone. Interestingly enough, it was that person's phone (!) and Anne made sure the owner got his cell phone back a bit later. He had lost the cell phone on a ski-trip to Korenosi a few months earlier...
Enjoying the view from Korenosi
This was definitely our leisure day in the mountains. No hard work. Just plodding around and licking sunshine. We decided to visit Middagshaugen before returning to Berdalsbandet. The road there was quite straightforward...
Middagshaugen
We arrived on Middagshaugen at 12:25pm. We've had view towards Hurrungane all day, but they never felt so close as now. And they were the perfect background for pictures for the family album...
Posing on Middagshaugen
This was indeed a memorable ski-trip. Not because of the mountain tops we visited, but because of the combination of the gorgeous weather, the amazing Hurrungane peaks, finding a place we could ski, and the general joy around just being outdoors. Some times, life certainly deserves to be celebrated...
Celebrating life
We arrived at the trailhead 1:17pm - 3h:17m after heading out. We arrived on Berdalsbandet via Årdal and for our return to Sogndal - we decided to drive RV55. A perfect round trip drive, as a follow-up to a perfect round trip on skis!
