My Mom and I had just visited Kjølsfjellet, Guromannen and Salbuhatten. Afterwards, I headed down to Kverntinden, and had that GOOD FEELING I always have being on an exploring mission. I had no information about this sweet little hill, and looked forward to getting to know it better.
I parked the car and headed up the hill 11:05AM. Once I had the ridge in view, I saw that the easy route to the top was just too easy. No fun. I then decided to follow the ridge crest all the way. No cheating. Make or break.
The first section was easy, but then I reached the point where the ridge dropped. It was too far down to jump. I couldn't get off to the left, and had to climb it to the right, holding my hands on top of the ridge. As it was raining, the rock was slippery. I got no hold for my feet, and had to drag myself across. That was "interesting", I remember thinking, once back on the ridge.
Another easy section followed before I reached another very narrow point. It was tempting to hold on to a tree down to my left, but I didn't. The exposure was of the serious kind - a 100m fall down to my right. I reached the top 11:30AM and considered if I should walk the ridge to its end. As it looked quite trivial, I didn't. It wasn't until the next day, when I was driving past, that I noticed that the ridge had additional features that looked more like climbing than scrambling. I promised myself to check out the rest of the ridge on my next visit to Brønnøysund.
Next stop on this "tour" was Ryptinden.
