Introduction

Litletoren (aka Lisjetoren, Lisje-toren, etc.) is by many regarded as the most beautiful peak in Volda, and when seen from the Laurdalen side, the claim is understandable. Litletoren has a big brother in Storetoren 1,3km to the southeast. And 1,1km south of Storetoren lies the less prominent Nordfjordtoren.

Despite of its dramatic appearance, Litletoren is an easy mountain to reach. Although there is not a distinct path, the west ridge doesn't offer other challenges than boulder. Those with a low tolerance for heights shouldn't find Litletoren intimidating. Those who like it a bit airy and exposed may consider the east ridge (this route is at the present not described on this page).

Felden is

The normal starting point for Felden and Litletoren is Laurdalen. You follow a toll road from Bjørkedalen up to 490 meters, and from here you can also reach Klakken, and Frøhornet (and subsequently Trollvasstinden).

Primary factor:

Litletoren (Norge 1:50,000: 1164m, Økonomisk Kartverk: 1164m, UTM 32 V 340726 6878431) has a primary factor of 189m towards the higher parent mountain Klakken (1256m). The defining saddle (approx. UTM 32 V 340438 6878492) is found between these two tops. Ref. Norge 1:50,000 (20m contours), the saddle is within the range 960-980m, interpolated to 975m (the distance between the 980m contours is only 24m).

GPS measurement read 1168m (on the ground), averaged over a 5-minute period (error margin +/- 0,9m). The co-ordinate above is 46m northwest of the GPS map point 1164m. This (unmarked) high point is found 68m northwest of the Litletoren cairn. It is unclear if map point 1164m marks the highest point.

Access

(all distances are approx. distances)

The starting point for this route description is Bjørkedalen (along highway E39 between Volda/Folkestand and Nordfjordeid). From Søre Bjørkedalen (by Bjørkedalsvatnet) turn west at the Haugen signpost (N62.00636 E6.04832). At a junction 400 meters later, drive straight ahead. 700 meters after this junction, you pass the Laurdalsvegen self-served toll booth (NOK 30,- for passenger cars).  Follow the road upwards for 3,1km and find parking at the end of the road (N62.01010 E5.98315). Make sure you turn right at Laurdalssætra.

From the parking, follow a path along the river for approx. 300 meters. Cross the river and try to locate the vague path that eventually runs along the creek coming from the basin below Litletoren. After a while, the path forks. Turn right and cross the creek. Aim for the west ridge and choose an ascent route of your preference. Once on the ridge proper, follow it to the top. There is a vague path on the left-hand side of the ridge. You'll pass the unmarked high point before you reach the cairn(s).
