Rånåkollen is a rounded, yet fairly characteristic mountain, located just southwest of Bjorli and just 4Km southeast of the Oppland/Møre og Romsdal border. Being one of the lower mountains in the region, its summit is quite easy to reach. This web page describes a route (on path) from the southeast.
From the summit you have view towards a number of rounded høis and høes (a local suffix for rounded mountains). Along Romsdalen valley, to the northwest, you'll spot the wild Trolltindan, Kvanndalstinden, Kalskråtinden, Vengetindan and even Romsdalshorn. Dønttinden is another characteristic peak in this direction. Torwards the west, you'll see Karitinden, but not Puttegga - the highest peak in Møre og Romsdal.
Rånåkollen (Norge 1:50,000: -, Økonomisk Kartverk: 1162m, UTM approx. 32 V 456364 6901778) has a primary factor of 434m, towards the higher parent mountain Skarvehøi (1665m). The saddle (approx. UTM 32 V 457098 6900960) is found south of Lotten, between the two mountains. Ref. Øknomisk Kartverk (5m contours), the saddle height is within the range 725-730m, interpolated to 728m.
The Rånakollen cairn (UTM 32 V 456605 6901900) is 1160m (1159,97m on ØK). Without knowing about point 1162m on beforehand, it is reasonable to assume that you are on the highest point when you're at the cairn. This page simply assumes that ØK is correct. If you look towards Karitinden, then your field of view passes over point 1162m.

Access
(all distances are approx. distances)
Locate the place Bjorli, a popular ski resort along E136 between Åndalsnes and Dombås. Approx 1,3Km southeast of Bjorli (in the direction of Dombås), locate a road signed Rånå.
Drive 2,6Km on this road. Shortly after a sharp left-hand curve, you'll see a rack of mailboxes, with Rånåkollen written on it. Park along the road without blocking for other traffic.
The route
Follow the road up to the nearest farm. Continue up to the large acre and locate a path runs up to a cabin, then along a fence, and then to another fence at the end of the acre.
Locate the path on the other side of the fence and follow it upwards in the northeast direction. Down in the forest, the path is marked by wooden plates, painted in red. The path can also be quite wet and boggy after rain.
Once on the plateau, turn west/southwest and aim for the Rånåkollen cairn. According to Økonomisk Kartverk, the high point (1162m) is found approx. 250m further southwest.
