Anne and me wanted to go skiing on this Friday afternoon and I proposed that we should go to Sandhornet - one of the classic Ørsta mountains for skiing. I had been to Sandhornet once before (in 2007), but Anne had not been to this mountain. The big question was when we could put the skis on. Based on what we could see from the Ørsta side, it seemed that we would have to walk for quite a while before finding snow. We drove up to the Brudevollen trailhead and headed out 3pm (sharp) - mentally prepared to carry our skis for a while...

But after walking for just a few minutes, we noticed snow further ahead on the forest road. Great news! But as the forest road would take us 0,4km in the wrong direction before heading up and back the right way, we took a short-cut through the forest. Once back on the road, we put the skis on and were now officially skiing!

At 340 meters, we left the forest road and followed the normal route towards Sandhornet. The snow was soft as butter and it wasn't quite clear how good the skiing would be. But for now, we were happy just by being outdoors!

Sandhornet was a quiet place on this Friday afternoon. We could see a couple of skiers high above us. As we were approaching the top, there were 3 skiers on their way down and 2 left on the summit. We arrived on top 4:45pm - 1h:45 after heading out from Brudevoll, and this was a spectacularly place to be!

After a nice stay on top - it was time to test the snow. To our surprise, it was actually quite good! The snow wasn't all that wet on the upper part of the mountain, but it didn't allow for speed skiing - which was quite OK with the both of us. We skied the forest road all the way down to 180 meters and had only 0,7km left to do on foot. We returned to the trailhead 5:48pm and looked forward to spend Friday evening in front of the TV - but with a good conscience!
