Access

(All distances are approx.)

From Ålesund, follow highway E136->E39 towards Bergen. At Solavågseidet, do NOT turn right when you see the first Solavågseidet sign, and don't turn left on E39 (signed Bergen). Continue 900m (from the 1st Solavågseidet sign) on RV61 (towards Hareid) and turn right at the 2nd Solavågseidet sign. Turn right again and cross RV61 on a bridge. Proceed 2Km on the main road until road end. Find parking here. Note that there are a few forks along this road. Follow your instincts.

The route

To Solavågsfjellet:

Just before road end, you will notice a forest road to your right. You will find a shortcut up to this forest road from the parking area. Follow the forest road 1,3Km towards Ramsvika. Turn right across a bridge, when you reach the fork signed "Furneset/Eikrem/Eikremsvik/Ramsvika/Solevåg". Head up the forest (Ramsvikløypa) and follow blue "T"'s painted on trees. On top of the hill, you pass the Ramsvikstølen ruins.

Cross a small creek, and head N/NE up to the foothills of Storskarnakken. Proceed across a small meadow, turn right and you will reach the Storskarnakken trail fork. Turn left and enter the Vasshaugane ridge. You have view towards Lake Svartevatnet from this ridge. At the end of the ridge, you reach another fork. Turn right and head up to the top of Trollhaugen, marked by a trigonometric point.

Descent:

From Trollhaugen, you will see the distinct eastern ridge, leading down to Solavågen bay. Descend N/NE and follow a marked (blue "T"'s) path which leads you down the ridge. At approx. 110m elevation, the path makes a sharp turn to the left (north, shortly after the Blanksteinen sign). Leave the path, and go straight ahead (east) on a vague path that leads you down to the road, very near the road across the bay. Follow the road back to the trailhead (750m).
