Norwegian Mountains, Møre og RomsdalSollia & bike trip, Oct 19 2009To the main Sollia page (maps, route descriptions, other trip reports, etc.)
![]() This Sunday, the target was Sollia on Gurskøya. Terje Bergset and I rode our bikes from Myrvåg to Mørkevatnet in Moltudalen - a distance of 16,5km via Sandvikskaret. This was my second recent bike trip, and at least one part of my body had not yet forgotten about the first... It was a beautiful day, and the combination of a bike trip and a hike was just perfect. Biking up Moltudalen was hard work, but at the same time - excellent workout. The hike from Mørkevatnet to Sollia took one hour (2,2km). Being the highest point on Gurskøya island, the view is just phenomenal, and I always look forward to get to this top. And Terje wasn't disappointed either...
![]() After a nice, but cold stay on the summit, we looked forward to get down to the less windy valley. And especially the downhill stretch to Moltustranda. But while I am a wimp downhill, Terje is the exact opposite. He overtook a car (still on the gravel road) at an incredible speed, and that was the last I saw of him until I got to Moltustranda. According to my GPS track, my max speed was 57km/h, so I can only imagine how fast he went. We returned to Myrvåg 4h:10m after heading out. Total distance on bike was 34,9km and 4,4km on foot. I deemed this to be adequate exercise and was in no need to hike another mountain in the afternoon (understatement)...
