My 3-day stay in Sogndal was coming to an end. Anne Rudsengen and I had so far visited Molden and Amlaholten, and Stedjeåsen was next on "the list". As I had to be back for the swine-flu vaccine in Fosnavåg (a long drive..) by 4:30pm, this had to be a morning hike. A fairly fast one, too. The time was 9:40am when we headed out and it was quite a nice day. Just like the previous two days. I had been fortunate about the weather, no doubt about it.

Stedjeåsen is Anne's local mountain, and the mountain is featured in her book "Opptur - Sogn og Fjordane". As Stedjeåsen - frankly - is not among Sognefjorden's finest viewpoints, I suppose the feature article sorts under the category of "author's privileges". But let there be no doubt - Stedjeåsen is a nice walk - along well-worn forest paths, through dense spruce forests and a birch forest. And with a good view towards Sogndal before entering the forest.

We reached the "official" high point 10:35am - just less than an hour after heading out. The goal was however the high point, located 240m to the southwest. In summer & autumn, this would have been an annoying walk across a boggy meadow, but now the ground was frozen, and we could just slide across..

On top, I could "celebrate" my 100th new top in 2009 (100 new tops is an annual goal), and moreover - my 1000th top with a primary factor (PF) >= 100m. I didn't feel any big joy about it, but there was certainly a satisfaction. 1000 PF tops means that I've been around, seen places, seen things, met people, made friends, been warm, cold, scared, glad, tired, exhausted and overjoyed, learned things, pondered on things, and even forgotten things. It's been worth the while. Absolutely.

Upon descent, we took the upper forest loop and Anne showed me a nice viewpoint towards Norafjorden - a part of Sognefjorden.

We were back at the trailhead 11:30am, and 15 minutes later, I was on my way home to Sunnmøre for my vaccine. Along the way, I promised myself to visit Skjorta and Ryssdalshornet soon. They are indeed two beautiful mountains. Being lucky with the ferry departures, I even had time for a shower before joining the crowds at the Fosnavåg health center...
