While waiting ...
I was to pick up Anne at Hovden
airport, and the opportunity for a quick hike came along. As I had limited
time, I searched for a peak that a) I hadn't visited before and b) that would be
a fairly quick hike. Litletinden was the first name I pulled out of
the hat. Kvanndalssætra would be my starting point, and I had approx.
4 hours before the plane landed. That should be more than plenty...
I got d i s a p p o i n
t e d when I
learned that I was not welcome to drive up to Kvanndalssætra, and had to
park above Bjørdalsbakken. I had now 2 boring km ahead of me before I got
to the point where the hike was supposed to begin. Why on earth can't the road
be open for public traffic? I would gladly pay a generous toll fee to save me from the 2 x
2km walk.
Rather annoyed with the local
practice, I parked my car in a junction near Bjørdalsbakken and headed out
11:00am. I arrived at Kvanndalssætra 20 minutes later and it was time to figure
out how to approach Litletinden.

Steep is just fine...
Given my limited window for hiking,
I chose a rather direct and steep route - straight up along a gully. This was the first time I was NOT wearing Scarpa boots (I've
had 13 pairs of the same model...). Just to try something new, I bought a pair
of Crispi Besseggen, and halfway up the steep gully I promised myself to never
buy this model again. Way, way to soft! What was I thinking, anyway? Should
have known better...
50 minutes after
leaving Kvanndalssætra, I arrived on the ridge and Litletinden summit was
just a 1,1km walk down the road...

Pu-ha...
I kept a good pace across the
ridge, and the final ascent was much easier than one might think - seeing this pointy summit
from a distance. On the summit, there was a
trigonometric point and a cairn, but it was clear that the high point was
on the far side of a narrow ridge. The scramble over to the high point is easy,
but stumbling is (as always) no-no. The summit (marked by a few rocks) was
reached 12:37pm - 1h:37m after heading out. The total distance was 5,3km
and the vertical gain was 960 meters.

Descent.
I had now full control over my time, and allowed myself a
descent via Grøthornet (1061m) and Eidstuva (801m). The walk along
the ridge was particularly nice, as I had never really got Rognestøyldalen in
full view before. I really need to go and spend some time there, soon! From Eidstuva, I turned southwest and hiked off-trail until I joined the road -
halfway between my car and Kvanndalsvatnet.
I returned to my car 2:27pm -
close to 3,5 hours after heading out. Apart from the very, very annoying
road-that-is-not-open-to-the-public, this was a most excellent hike! And Anne
arrived on time...
