Introduction

Storetuva is located above Folkestad by Voldsfjorden. The mountain has two distinct tops; the north top (823m) is located 590m north of the high point (826m). This page will describe a route from Folkestad via Flotehamrane, and later on (upon the next visit) a route from Folkestaddalen. A third route runs from Årvia via Straumsætra, and there are several other interesting (off-trail) round trip routes to choose from.

Storetuva offers nice terrain for skiing. The only exception might be the Bjønnastien trail between Flotehamrane and the meadows above Folkestad. Skis might have to come off here, unless you try your luck in the forest north of Flotehamrane.

From Flotane, follow the Folkestaddalen road 900m up to a gun range (ignore the Bjønnastien signpost after 500m). Turn left and follow a path southeast towards Flotehamrane. The path runs steeply up the forest and tops out on Flotehamrane at 370-380m elevation. Head upwards and pass a slab area on the left-hand side. Then follow the ridge up to Storetuva. You'll pass a cairn at 792m. This is not the high point. Continue to the north top (823m, 650m to the south), then descend to approx. 790m before the route climbs up to the 826m high point.
