Norwegian Mountains, Møre og RomsdalFyre, Feb 22 2009To the main Storevasshornet/Fyre page (maps, route descriptions, other trip reports, etc.)
It was the third day of my friend Anna's short holiday in Norway, and the bad weather wasn't very inviting for a trip to the higher Sunnmøre mountains. I suggested we could go to Fyre, a top on the mountain ridge between Voldnes and Drageskaret on Gurskøya. I had visited the higher neighbour Storevasshornet earlier in the month, and I had already some good pictures from this area. Thus, a hike in rain and fog was quite OK. At least Anna could look at the Storevasshornet pictures and see what the area looked like without fog. We headed out from (near) Almestad and followed the same path I took on my trip to Storevasshornet. Shortly after entering the valley between Storevasshornet and Fyre, we left the path and headed towards Lake Tødenesvatnet. The rain was indeed notable, but the air was fresh and it was good to be outdoors. We picked a random route up to Fyre and reached the top 12:38pm, 1h:08m after leaving the trailhead. The fog was thick, and nothing could be seen from the top. Rather than just descending our ascent route, we continued along the ridge towards Keipen (413m) and began our descent halfway between Fyre and Keipen. The GPS was a useful helper, as this mountain ridge doesn't offer a lot of easy descents. After yet another encounter with creeks-much-larger-than-normal, we reached the trailhead 1:48pm, 2h:18m after heading out.
