The weather being great all day,
I decided to leave work a little earlier on this Friday afternoon, and visit
Storøya - just outside Tjørvåg on Gurskøya. But by the time I arrived at Herøy
Industripark (my chosen starting point), it had turned into a rather cloudy
afternoon. But there was no turning around now.
My 4th trip in the "Hawk"
started 3:15pm and I had a smooth ride around Litløya
and Storøya. I visited the "high" point, closely observed by
someone in a real boat. Am I the "talk of the town" now?
It started raining as I reached Røyrasundet, but it didn't
amount to anything else than cool raindrops on the water. The whole trip took 1h:35m and after
hanging the "Hawk" up to dry in the bathroom, I went up to Huldrehornet
and enjoyed fun scrambling/climbing on the back side of the mountain.

My route around Måløya

This Saturday morning, getting
up was particularly hard. My leg muscles were so stiff
that I understood that my body was protecting me from myself. "Hell
if you'll do any hiking today!" Was it the recent soccer training?
Or the 40km biking & hiking from last weekend? I guess I never should have
done that "How old are you" internet test. The result - Age 20
- must have
gone to my head...
So the only thing I really felt
like
doing was to bring the semi-dry "Hawk"
out of the bathroom and put it into the trunk of the car. I decided that I
wanted to visit Måløya (Måløyna) - a small island outside Jøsok on Gurskøya.

I headed out from the Jøsok harbour 10:50am, and the water
was perfectly still. But the tide was turning, so I knew it wouldn't
last. The plan was to do the south side first, and enjoy smoother water on
the north side - on the way back. A guy I met before heading out, suggested the opposite and I
decided to follow his advice. In retrospect, this didn't seem so smart. The south side
got quite bumpy when the tide came along.
A small boat with three people came close. I
guess they wanted to see what kind of person would row these waters in an
inflatable rubber boat. "Any fish?", they shouted. "No
fish", I replied in a vain effort to blend in..

The
trip around Måløya took 1h:50m. I still wasn't in the mood for hiking, so I
decided to go on a combined bike and hiking trip; from Myrvåg, up
Ringstaddalen, then hike up Garnestua (653m), continue by bike to Ulsteinvik and back to Myrvåg. Altogether 29,4km on the bike and 4,6km on
foot.
Other "Hawk" trips :
Yksnøya,
Kjeholmen,
Bakarholmen and Furøya.
