Furehornet & Elvehornet, Feb 18 2012 |

It was one of those mornings when you really, really don't want to step outside. And if it hadn't been for the fact that I've promised myself to visit (at least) 100 new mountain tops per year, I would probably have stayed indoors as well... I decided to go to Stadlandet and visit a couple of lower tops that I had been saving up for a rainy day. Be sure, this was such a day.
Passing Gursken. Sigh...
At Sandvika (on Stadlandet), I caught a glimpse of a large deer on my left-hand side, while I was driving.. eh .. in accordance with the speed limit. 100 meters down the road, I tried to analyze the captured image I had in my head. It was a fine deer, no doubt. But wasn't it very close to the road? And didn't it look rather ... calm? And ... moreover ... didn't I see a fence? A large fence? And more deers? I needed answers to all these questions, and I put the car in reverse. Sure enough - all of the above was true. I made a mental note to do a net search for deer farms on Stadlandet when I returned home...
Oh deer...
When I arrived on top of the pass between Drage and Hoddevika, snow covered the road and the mountain tops were hidden in fog. But just like a wave from a magic wand, it stopped snowing and the fog lifted. Hallelu...!! I decided to visit Furehornet first, then Elvehornet. I didn't see any path, which I found odd. After many trips to Stadlandet, my impression is that there are paths EVERYWHERE! Near the Elvehornet - Furehornet saddle, I joined a path but I didn't understand where it came from. Then I followed it up to Furehornet which I reached 12:37pm - 30 minutes after heading out. As I didn't know the south side of Stadlandet too well, it was nice to be up here and study interesting rocks, cliff and ... places.
Ytre Fure
What a great day it was. I was absorbing energy from everything around me; the company, the scenery, the sunshine, the works! Even breaking trail from Lotsstøylen and 1,4km up the mountain road felt just brilliant. Many thanks to Lise who mercifully allowed me to be the point man (for a little while), and feel that I contributed with something useful. At 620 meters, we left the mountain service road and continued across Revureholten before turning southeast - in the direction of Svartegga. Looking back on the others and the stunning background produced some hard-to-forget moments...
Across Revureholten
We reached the summit of Svartegga 2:12pm - 2h:25m after heading out from Lotsberg (170m). This was indeed a great place to be! Ove went nuts and kept jumping around, while Anne was running around in the snow taking snow baths. Only Lise and me kept a civilized appearance - and without resorting to monkey business...
Ove - going nuts on Svartegga summit
The grand finale was of course the descent. The snow quality was more than perfect and this would be a big blast! We descended directly into Lotsbergdalen and enjoyed 300 vertical meters of pure delight. It tastes so much better when you've actually worked for it...
Descending from Svartegga
We returned to Lotsberg 3:21pm, after a most inventive route down the forest. A million thanks to Lise and Ove for a most excellent weekend at Lotsberg. I was high in the sky with Lucy, all the way back to Sunnmøre...
