Back to the main Tinden page
I had just returned back from an intensive trip to Nordmøre. 3100 vertical meters in less than 30 hours, and hiking wasn't my first thought when I woke up this last day of Whitsun. My friend Svein called me later in the day, and we tried to find an EASY hiking goal that we both were interested in. We ended up with Tinden. Svein had never been there before, and I wanted better pictures. It was roughly a year since I visited Tinden, and the weather was not so good that day.
The Gjerset parking was absolutely packed with cars and bikes. We parked down the road, and Svein, my dog Troll and myself were on our way 12:40PM. I was curious about which top all these people were heading to, but we found that they all were gathered down by Lake Gjersetvatnet. It looked like a friluftsgudstjeneste, with chanting and singing. I chose the Norwegian name for this gathering, as I recall the famous words from a Norwegian Prime Minister - "Thank you for the mess" - after attending such a service (Gudstjeneste) in Brazil.
Again, I found myself getting annoyed about all the cars in the beautiful Synnalandsdalen valley. If I was Prime Minister, I would surely close this road for common traffic. There IS a Private Road sign down by Gjerset, but everytime I'm in the region, I see cars. What about establishing a horse shuttle service at each side of the valley. Good for the environment, good exercise for the horses, and a chance for some extra income.
Troll had walked to Gjersetvatnet, but as his tongue touched ground, I decided to carry him. We entered the path to Urkedalsvatnet, and could witness that some had put a lot of work into the path. Probably the owners of the LarKar-bu cabin. After a small stop by the lake, we continued upwards and reached Tinden 13:57PM. It was a very nice day. The wind was a bit chilly, but we found good shelter behind a rock. We spent close to an hour up there.
We took it nice and easy on the way down. Troll walked all the way back to the trailhead, which we reached 15:50PM. Another nice day in the Haram mountains.
