Tylderingen is a popular mountain located above Sogndalsdalen, and 7-8km northwest of Sogndalsfjøra. A popular skiing route (3,3km) begins at Fretland (approx. 500m), runs up the forest, passes the Stokksete cabins and then follows Tylderingen's south ridge to the top. This is the route described on this page.
Tylderingen (Norge 1:50,000: 1104m, Økonomisk Kartverk: 1104,51m, UTM 32 V 394578 6796918) has a primary factor of 214m towards the higher parent Grøthovden (1128m). The defining saddle (approx. 32 V 394730 6798907) is found between Spefjell and Tylderingen - southwest of Lake Volane. Ref. Norge 1:50,000 (20m contours), the saddle is within the range 880-900m, interpolated to 890m.

Route 1: Fretland - Tylderingen (winter)

Access

The nearest bigger town is Sogndal (has an airport). In short; from Sogndal, follow Dalavegen to Fretland. The longer version; Dalavegen begins just north of the Sogndalselva bridge. Turn right in the first junction, then follow the main road approx. 7km to the Fretland junction. Turn right and drive 1,1km up to Fretland. Find parking where appropriate, alternatively - ask for permission to park.
Note that there are several ways to get from RV5 (Sogndalsdalen) to Dalavegen.
The route
Ski northeast up to the Tråna cabin, then west->nortwest until you gain the ridge towards the Stokksete cabins, staying south of the spruce forest. From Stokksete, proceed north and head up the small valley between Tylderingen and Vardafjellet, before taking a northeast course towards Tylderingen summit, marked by a proper cairn.
